I really can't see why (looking at #65797), especially since mplayer
(the decoding part) was allowed into Debian, which can play, amongst
others, also mpeg/mp3 files. And this was done after literally years
staying in NEW/debian-legal.

No, I once tried to but given these bugs I did not try further. Though
I still think these are valid bugs. If you want me to retry (probably
not on alpha, though) please tell me. I am currently looking trough my
open bugs, and these particular ones have not even be acknowledged
previously, despite several (!) uploads in the archive (so no MIA case,
at has happened to other bugs of mine).
