I installed dnsrecon for its advertised
  "Enumerate Common mDNS records in the Local Network"
feature.

After looking around for it, I finally found this:

Please update the package description when advertised features are
removed.  Severity is set to 'important' since the package is
completely unusable as an mDNS record enumerator, while it 
probably still is usuable as something else
