It's quite likely that Sam Hartman, as maintainer of pam packages
(IIRC) and former co-maintainer of shadow, has a good idea of the
reason this patch was there. Anyway, asking is a good idea as we maybe
can now get rid of this patch...and anyway, knowing ourselves why it
is here is certainly good.
