There is not too much resemblance. I think that we could reduce our
goal to make GNU userland systems like the Linuxes to behave the same,
so we shouldn't patch our shadow to make it do different things than
it does on SuSE or Redhat.

I don't care too much about that. Just do what you find sensible.

In my opinion, it would be nice if adduser could either complete the
operation to its end, or not even start it. Leaving a job half done is
bad, IMO. How I accomplish that can be decided once your change has
been done.
