Looks like it starts working after first success.

First `sudo su - newuser` in new xterm/shell is
unsuccessful, I send SIGCONT to su process, exit from
awaken shell and then next `sudo su - newuser` is OK
WRT `suspend -f`...

P.S.
with `ps -A f` you can see T+ vs. T stat for suspended
su-ed shell as symptom of bad vs. good suspend.
