I think you have something wrong in your PAM configuration.

Can you send the files
/etc/pam.d/su
/etc/pam.d/passwd 
/etc/pam.d/common-* (at least common-password and common-session)

With a little chances, you can still use sudo to restore sane
configurations for PAM.
