I wrote two weeks ago:

>   Unpacking passwd (from .../passwd_1%3a4.0.18.1-2_i386.deb) ...

When did this happen? 

shadowconfig is supposed to be run on *new installs* only....so that
would mean that you're installing passwd:

1) during a new Debian install
2) on a system that had no passwd package before


1) we never got this in D-I reports and anyway havong an inconsistent
group/gshadow coupld would be surprising

2) passwd is a required package so removing it from a Debian system
requires specific admin action....which is not supported (aka "you
deserve what happens"

I may miss a 3) case, but please explain and give more context.




We cannot deal with this bug report with the information we have
currently. Moreover, none of us has been able to reproduce it.

As a consequence, I'm hereby tagging it accordingly and I'm
considering closing it. The only way to *maybe* reproduce that bug
could be by removing passwd from a working Debian system....and this
is something that should not be done, passwd being a required package.
