I'm putting the ubuntu uploader in CC for information.
The patch fixes some performance issues when there is a big number of
users, and when the UID of the new user is specified on the command line.
This issue was fixed in 4.1.1. I would recommend Ubuntu to switch to that
version, which would mean getting also rid of this patch.
IIRC, there are still some performances issues when there is a large
number of users, and when this list is not just parsed from a file and put
in memory (i.e. for slow/network databases). IIRC, redhat has a patch to
improve this use case, which I need to review.
