[Pkg-shadow-devel] Allowing dots in usernames

Hi all,

I'm a developer on the Yocto Project, an embedded Linux build system
(yoctoproject.org). We currently use this upstream project as our shadow
implementation, and we are maintaining some patches to allow for dots in
usernames.

I realize this issue has been discussed on the list in the past, e.g:

http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/adduser-devel/2010-November/004029.html

The other day I found a post to this ML (which I can't seem to find
anymore) indicating that allowing dots in usernames was being considered.

I was just wondering what the status of this was. In Yocto we mark our
patches with metadata indicating whether they are upstreamable or not.
If shadow will not be officially supporting dots in usernames, that's
fine, but I just want to make sure I know what the status of this is so
I can mark our patches accordingly.

Thanks,

Scott Garman
