#2 - Why this is going to the mailing list and not via the bug
reporting system.
I couldn't file the report on the debian website because I couldn't find a link to create
a new bugreport. I tried creating an account but, after confirming my email address, my
login was rejected. Maybe Debian's server is very slow.

#3 - A bug
Problem :
'./configure --help' states that --with-libcrack defaults to 'yes' if
found and PAM is not enabled.

However,
I'm not an autotools expert but I haven't found that conditional
statement in configure.in

'--with-libcrack' must be added to the './configure'
commandline if cracklib is installed and the shadow package is to use
it. Because shadow's configure.in file sets 'with_libcrack="no" unless
'--with-libcrack' is used. REF: configure.in line# 255

#4 - Off topic :
We have auto(this-and-that) to automatically install software packages.
Why can't someone come up with an auto-reportbug program so that bug
reporters don't have to spend a lot of time trying to find out where to
file bugreports and to whom ? I've spent at least 1/2 an hour trying to
send this to you. And I have several more bugs to report for other
software. I'll send them some other time. Maybe. I think that glib or is
it glibc? has a bugreport program specifically tailored for it's use.
But it wants sendmail which I don't have. Oh well.
