For the record, applying this patch in the upstream branch is on my
TODO list. I'd of course welcome someone else doing it, too...:-)

(feel free to ask for Alioth commit access through the Alioth web
interface is you need it)

I also ponder applying the latest proposed patch to fix build on Hurd
(first patch by Svante or maybe rather later proposed patches).
