Status of Shibboleth packaging

Hello all,

I thought it would be a good time to send out a summary of the current
status of the Shibboleth packaging for Debian.

I've unfortunately been horribly busy with other work, which meant that I
never found time to stage the new Shibboleth packages in experimental
during the long Debian release freeze the way I'd intended to. I have
finally started on this now; xml-security-c is currently waiting in NEW.

The Apache 2.4 migration in Debian is going to start on May 30th, and the
Shibboleth packages will not be ready by that point most likely, but
hopefully will be shortly afterwards. This may mean that the Shibboleth
SP will temporarily be removed from Debian testing to let the Apache 2.4
migration complete, depending on when I get everything done. If that
happens, don't panic; it will be back as soon as the migration to the
version compatible with 2.4 is complete.

Official backports to wheezy and squeeze have to wait for the new
Shibboleth packages to migrate to testing, which at this point will
probably be after the Apache 2.4 migration is complete. That may take a
little bit. Depending on how long it takes, I may stage Apache 2.2
backported versions somewhere else for folks to use until they can get
into the official archives.

The new package set will be built with log4shib instead of log4cpp.

As you may have seen, the new xml-security-c packages will include a new
xml-security-c-utils package that includes the command-line utilities, but
they'll be renamed to start with xmlsec-*, since the names are otherwise
rather generic. I'm hoping to also package the FastCGI support for the
Shibboleth SP as part of this round of work.
