This I have never heard of before - but also I have never used sddm.
Please try use another login manager. You should not need to remove
sddm, just install one more, e.g. lightdm, and pick that as the default.
If that works, then we still have a bug somewhere, but can narrow it
down to the interaction with that particular login manager (i.e. one of
them not fully complying with needed specs).
