Hi,
thank you for your quick response.
To some extend many of the changes are of the past and just carried
forward, but I made a lot of archaeology to understand their reasoning so I
should be able to flesh out what is needed.

I'm absolutely willing to do so, but shotgun-blasting explainations won't
help I might still miss those that you wait to get explained better.
If you could - in any way - let me know "where" you need more info that
would be nice.

So:
#1 - where:
- do you want me to add comments in d/rules and such
- do you want more in the changelog?
- more in the commit messages?

#2 - for what:
- if you could send me back e.g. the changelog and mark the changes that
you want more
- or a similar list, but along an output of "git log"

#3 - something else
- I tried to group commits by topic, especially the mass enablement would
otherwise get issues as interim commits won't build correctly
- yet if you want me to split them up tell me and I'd try to do so.
- if you'd need anything else let me know as well

I'm close to EOD now, but should be able to do so tomorrow morning - so
please let me know "what exactly" you need and I'll try to provide it.
