Be careful with this check, this should be rather something like

if [ -d /run/systemd/system/ ] && dpkg --compare-versions "$2" lt 204-1 ; then
  preserve_stuff
fi

Otherwise you file the dist-upgrade for systems where systemd is not the active PID 1.
