OK. We won't ever get test results from Chris because he no longer has
the problematic hardware, so I'm going to assume that this is indeed
what was going on, and merge it with the dbus bug.

This is fixed in testing, unstable and experimental; I'm talking to the
security team about fixing it in stable-security, since it was a
regression in a security update.

Andreas, please delete system-local.conf after you have upgraded to a
dbus version that fixes #769069. There is no such version for stable
yet, but I'm hoping I'll get permission soon to upload
dbus/1.6.8-1+deb7u5 with this fixed.
