[Pkg-systemd-maintainers] Package build process

While we're on the subject of the systemd package's build process
(gitpkg vs. git-buildpackage), would someone please explain what the
current process looks like? I'm not familiar with gitpkg other than
studying the manpage, and I can't figure out how to rebuild 204-5, for
example.

I've cloned from git://anonscm.debian.org/pkg-systemd/systemd.git. The
presence of debian/source/git-patches seems to suggest the configuration
value gitpkg.deb-export-hook needs to be set, but no such configuration
comes along with the clone, so I added it via git-config. There seems to
be more configuration required to get pristine-tar to work, but simply
adding the hook mentioned in the gitpkg manpage doesn't do the trick.

Running `gitpkg 204-5 v204' is the best I could come up, but that fails
during dpkg-source when applying the verify first patch (written by the
above git-patches hook, I presume).

What am I missing?

Thanks for the great work on systemd,
