I was going to reassign this bug to gdm3, but gdm3 (3.8.4-6) seems to
check if logind is running with a check that's orthogonal to /proc:
#define LOGIND_RUNNING() (access("/run/systemd/seats/", F_OK) >= 0)
OTOH, I could find one occurrence of hidepid breaking some systemd
functionality in the past:

Any idea if this is still the case?
