Personally, I think splitting it out into a separate package just to
avoid a 60K dependency is not worth it.

Unless Tollef or Michael disagree, I’d appreciate it if you could just
provide the result of “git format-patch” with your changes against the 
git+ssh://git.debian.org/git/pkg-systemd/systemd.git¹ repository, so that
I can merge it with proper attribution (i.e. your name in the
commit). As for the changelog update, you can do that, or I can do it
for you. I don’t have a preference either way.

① You _should_ be able to use s/git+ssh/git/g for checking out the
   repository if you don’t have an account on git.debian.org, but it
   seems like this is temporarily broken:
