In its current form I probably wouldn't ship it at all and recommend the
use of rsyslog for remote logging which looks like a much more mature
solution for that use case imo.

If we are going to ship it, I think we then should at least
- check, how well libmicrohttpd is maintained (upstream and in the
Debian archive)
- split it into a separate package and make it absolutely clear in the
package description which limitations the gateway has (especially in
regard to security)
- ship the gateway service disabled by default
