[Pkg-systemd-maintainers] lvm2 and systemd

Hi Michael,

seeing Don's latest response [1] where he asks for an updated patch, I
think it would make sense to also mention the issue regarding the
dmsetup udev rules [2] which break the dmsetup/cryptsetup integration.

I've read the "upstream" bug report [3] about this issue where lvm
upstream mentioned problems using the watch facility for dmsetup (which
apparently generate lots of unwanted I/O and sometimes lead to a failing
lvremove due to open fds).
Afaics this has been addressed/worked around in dmsetup and the watch
option was added upstream as a result (this predates lvmetad):

Version 1.02.71 - 20th February 2012
====================================
  ..
  Add "watch" rule to 13-dm-disk.rules.
  ..

dmsetup is built from the lvm2 source package, so it might make sense to
deal with both issues while we are at it.

That said, there seem to be changes in the Debian lvm2 svn [4] where
Bastian enabled lvmetad and switched to the upstream udev rules.
So the udev rules issue for dmsetup would be fixed.
But afaics lvmetad is built but not used by default. Bastian also does
not ship the upstream service files for lvmetad. So we might have the
issue all over again once he actually switches to lvmetad as default :-/

I'm not sure if it's worth bringing that up in the bug report,

Michael
