I find that a bit confusing, but it's indeed how it's explained in the
manpage.

Well, I'm not sure what changed (besides cups), but when the cups socket
activation was first introduced, my
/etc/systemd/system/cups.socket.d/local.conf with:

[Socket]
ListenStream=
ListenStream=/var/run/cups/cups.sock
ListenDatagram=

was working just fine.
