Why is that necessary? We already create the input group in udev.postinst?

I can't say I like this change.
After all, we already run ifquery in net.agent to avoid starting
ifup at .service for the interface in the first place.
I'd really like to avoid spawning a shell here.

Could you consider keeping this change in the ubuntu branch, as I don't
see it being relevant for Debian?

Btw, have you figured out a way to run systemd-escape from the .rules
file, when triggering the ifup at .service start in Ubuntu to properly
escape the interface names?
