I installed xfce4 and tried to reproduce the bug.
I experienced the same exact misbehavior.

I think we can conclude that the bug does *not* depend on the window
manager / desktop environment...

Please tell me whether you need any further information in order to
investigate. Otherwise, please drop the moreinfo tag.
