Shutdown from KDE session sometimes does not work. Have to manually sudo 
poweroff and this plays.

Recently, things seemed to hang up exiting KDE and I sent into a console 
session and did the sudo poweroff. Got messages "Stopping file system check"  
before dismounting file system.

Cannot say what triggered the checks.
