Thanks a lot for your input and for having a look at this issue.
We had a discussion on #debian-release, which I'm quoting for
completeness sake:

to use the gold linker

fixed on the binutils side, but we don't have 2.5 weeks of binaries

not accumulate too much packages in the queue
