I don't have a stretch package yet including this patch and I also
haven't pulled the patch into the stretch git branch either.

I'd just apt-get source systemd -t stretch , apply your patch, then
build the package and test the result on a stretch system.

Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the
universe are pointed away from Earth?
