There were some known problems in udev 240-1 which are supposedly fixed
in 240-2 but maybe the initramfs is still broken.
Could you try to downgrade to a known good state (i.e. 239-15 in your
case), reboot the system and check that everything comes up as expected.
Then upgrade directly to 240-2 (which should trigger an initramfs
update), then reboot.
Does the system boot successfully?
If not, can you provide the exact error messages?
Do the error messages come from the initramfs or after the initramfs
stage? If nothing else, a screenshot would help.
I would suggest to remove "quiet" from the kernel command line, in case
you have that added by default.
