Do you have SELinux, AppArmor, a GRSecurity enabled kernel or something
like this enabled?

The results from booting with a Debian provided kernel would be useful
as well.

Your problem might be seccomp related.

Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the
universe are pointed away from Earth?
