It's rather simple, really.

Run apt-get source -b systemd inside the sbuild chroot.
Then inside the source directory run
# gdb build-deb/test-stat-util
#
(gdb) set logging on
Copying output to gdb.txt.
(gdb) run
...
(gdb) bt full
