Indeed. While I updated /etc/lxc/default.conf, it seems
"autopkgtest-build-lxc debian sid" did not update the existing
/var/lib/lxc/autopkgtest-sid/config.
Once I destroyed the container and created it anew, it worked.

It's a bit unfortunate, that when you boot your system with the unified
hierarchy, you need to explicitly configure
"lxc.init.cmd = /sbin/init systemd.unified_cgroup_hierarchy=1" or hope
the host systemd instance has been built with unified hierarchy as default.
That means, once we flip the default in unstable/testing, creating and
running a buster container will require
"lxc.init.cmd = /sbin/init systemd.unified_cgroup_hierarchy=1"
Would be nice if lxc could do that automatically.

Or is there maybe a while to update lxc-templates to influence that?
