Sorry for not being clear - this is a patch for the kernel. 
Instructions for rebuilding the kernel package are at
<https://kernel-team.pages.debian.net/kernel-handbook/ch-common-tasks.html#s-common-official>.

I agree that you should check whether this fixes the coldplug error
before we try rebuilding the installer.
