Bug#1023483: systemd upgrade to 252-2 breaks suspend, suspend-then-hibernate

Package: systemd
Version: 252-2
Severity: normal
X-Debbugs-Cc: s.huels at gmx.net

Dear Maintainer,

recently, the following systemd-related packages where updated on my two
laptops:
ibnss-systemd
libpam-systemd
libsystemd0
libsystemd0
libsystemd-shared
libudev1
libudev1
systemd
systemd-sysv
systemd-timesyncd
udev

Since the update, I have the following issues with suspend and
suspend-then-hibernate:

Suspend (seemingly random):
When the laptop is put into s2idle (e.g. after idling a while or by
closing the lid), sometimes (not easily reproducible) the display stays
off and keyboard, touchpad and touchscreen are not repsonsive.
I can connect to the system by ssh, though.

Suspend-then-hibernate (reproducible every time):
When the laptop is put into s2idle and suspend-then-hibernate is
activated, no hibernation occurs even after multiples of HibernateDelaySec.
When the system is woken up before HibernateDelaySec has passed, it
usually wakes up normally but sometimes doesn't (see above).
When the system is woken up after HibernateDelaySec has passed, the
display always remains off and input devices are not responsive. Still,
ssh connection is possible then as well.

The system log shows the Lid close events as well as entering respective
suspend states and waking up again. No obvious errosr are reported in
connection with the wake up.

Downgrading the above-mentioned packages to version 251-6 solves this
issue.

The laptops in question are a Surface Go3 and a Thinkpad X1 Yoga
Titanium, running Debian testing/Sid mix with KDE Plasma on
wayland as desktop environment.

On the Thinkpad, the suspend issue was seen with both s2idle and s2ram,
as well as kernels 5.19.11-1, 6.0.5-1 and 6.0.6-2.

Please let me know if you need more information.

Regards,
Sönke
