Since you mentioned the bpo version, I assume you want to see this fixed 
via a stable upload?

In this case, it would be great if you can find the relevant PR/commit 
between 252.17 and 254.5 via git bisect and then ask for a backport into 
the v252-stable branch upstream at 
https://github.com/systemd/systemd-stable.

Unfortunately I lack the required setup to run this git bisect myself so 
the fix for this issue will rely on your help.
