Good morning,
The first installation was auto-partitioned as /, /tmp, /var & /home, no LVM and no encryption. Did a bit of trouble-shooting, even reformatted /home (/tmp and /var were fine), but nothing helped, so I re-installed this time choosing /home only. I cannot imagine, sizes being different as well, it would have put it on top of the previous home.
It had Kali on it before, but it cannot remember the layout and it may even have been LVM.
I have not configured much so far due to the issues with /home, so am happy to do a test re-install but knowing my luck, the problem will probably go away.
