From time to time I have this behaviour too.
I do not know why, but sometimes mounting of nfs is bachgronded
because network is temporary not availlable.  WHich mean, sometimes
my /home is mounted and sometimes not... IF BACKGROUNDING !!!

A login direct after booting and a telnet to www.debian.org give me
a connection...

Note:   I have 3 FileServers where the first one holds the /home,
        the second the /usr/src and the third is for multimedia
        (Blender, etc.)
