I agree that it would make sense for the kernel to power down disk
when the reboot() call is used, at least have an option to do so.  Not
sure how hard it would be to get the kernel developers to change it,
though.

As for syadmins using other names, I am not very worried about that
problem.  But it would be nice to have some way to get the kernel or
some library to tell us which disk devices area available. :)

While we wait for the kernel developers to look into this issue, we
need a solution that work.  I welcome a better patch, but did not have
time to work on it myself, and as this seem to do its job, I accepted
it for now. :)
