[Pkg-sysvinit-devel] Splitting off some useful programs (bug #385722)

I got a test report on IRC indicating that the problem I saw with the
sysvutils package split was related to my use of ~ in the version
number. If I am able to verify this, which I expect, we are ready to
split of the killall5, last, lastb, mesg and pidof. All we need to do
is agree on the name.

So far two proposals have been one. One from Ubuntu and Scott for
sysvutils, another from Henrique saying we should use sysvinit-utils,
or at least the entire name sysvinit instead of just sysv.

I did a search in the archive for -tools and -utils packages, and
found thtat there are 138 packages with -utils in their name, and 123
packages with -tools in their name. So -utils seem to be the more
popular appendix for such extra packages.

I have no strong opinion on the topic, but as Henrique seem to have
such strong opinion, and Ubuntu has promised to adjust to whatever we
come up with, I will agree with Henrique and will use the
sysvinit-utils name. This change will to through experimental first.

Any comments, objections, other ideas, etc?

I plan to fix the longstanding NFS umounting problem (#258420,
#367944) with the same upload, and plan to do it in a few days, now
that I believe the update-rc.d issue has settled down a bit.

Friendly,
