I would very much like help to track down and fix the packages broken
by these recent changes, restricting the use of /dev/shm/ and making
/var/run/ and /var/lock/ tmpfs. Using apt-file searching for
/var/run, I found crack and crack-md5 with directories as part of the
package. I found none with directories in /var/lock/. I suspect more
packages are creating directories in their postinst scripts affected
by this.

The exim4 package is already identified using a socket in
/var/run/exim4/, and I've reported bug #387699 asking it to be changed
to create the exim4 subdirectory after boot. Its maintainer is
arguing against the change, but I do not plan to let that stop me.
The advantages for the early boot and stateless workstatoins are just
too many.

I'm not sure how to locate those doing funky stuff in /dev/shm/.

Friendly,
