bootclean does *not* run at S20. It is only called indirectly by
S36mountall-bootclean.sh and S46mountnfs-bootclean.sh in /etc/rcS.d/.

Maybe you created the S20 symlink yourself using a tool like bum or
sysv-rc-conf.
