Hi. You are listed as the upstream developer for the sysvinit
package, and it is quite a long time since the last release. In the
mean time, quite a lot of bug fixes and improvements have been
developed, and the version used by the different Linux distributions
are diverting more and more. I am one of the Debian maintainers for
this package, and even though I try to track patches applied to the
SuSe and Fedora version, I am sure there are others I have failed to
discover.

To reduce the differences between distributions, it would be very
useful to have a new official release of the sysvinit package, with
the patches that make sense to have in all distributions integrated.
Perhaps it would be a good idea to switch the package to group
maintenence, with the maintainers from the Linux distributions as team
members?

Anyway, the current list of patches applied to the Debian package is
available from

  http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-sysvinit/sysvinit/trunk/debian/patches/?rev=0

Please apply the ones you believe are correct and generic and release
a new version of sysvinit for us to integrate into our distributions.

Happy hacking,
