[Pkg-sysvinit-devel] Bug#405870: Bug#414176: /sbin/halt .. -i .. in, etch breaks WOL, doesn't do SIOCSIFFLAGS ioctl

I discovered this bug report when trying to find out why a Compaq
Deskpro EN would not respond to WOL after an upgrade to etch. There
still is a parallel installation of sarge on that machine that works
fine. I replaced the original version of /sbin/halt that shipped with
etch with the self-compiled version provided by Harry Coin in the
discusstion of bug #414176. Now WOL works again. The Deskpro has an
ethernet controller identified by lspci as Intel Corporation
82801BA/BAM/CA/CAM Ethernet Controller, the driver used is e100.
I'm afraid I'm not familiar with the debian bug reporting ethics, so I
can only hope that its ok and may be helpful to report my observation
here. What would have been the "right" way? From what I have found in
the bug tracking system, this bug has not been closed. What could I have
done to find a fixed version of sysvinit to install on my system?
Thanks,
Malte**
