I must admit that my personal stanse on this is that if you fill the
hostname with noise and something break, you get to keep all the
pieces.  I do not believe it is the task of /etc/init.d/hostname.sh to
hide the mistakes done by the system administrator.  Hiding it might
make some program work and others who uses the content of
/etc/hostname directly to fail, and this seem like a bad idea to me.
