I wrote some time ago:

Debian Policy Manual says:
     Packages are not required to declare any dependencies they have on
     other packages which are marked `Essential' (see below), and should
     not do so unless they depend on a particular version of that
     package.

The versioned dependencies
mount (>= 2.11x-1), e2fsprogs (>=1.32+1.33-WIP-2003.04.14-1)
are wrong and useless because stable or maybe even oldstable have newer
versions. I think that even "recommends" entries shouldn't be needed.
