One reason not to do it is to make sure every user can get help from
anyone with knowledge about the boot, no matter what language is
selected, as all users will see the same message.  With translated
messages, German users can only get help from those understanding
German.  Of course with english messages, not everyone will be able to
understand the messages. :)

One obstacle would be that translations are normally found in /usr/,
and that partition is not mounted very early in the boot.
