I installed the freepops package to investigate, and then run the following
commands:
root at nomad:/home/kelmo# invoke-rc.d freepops start
Starting freepops daemon: freepopsd.
root at nomad:/home/kelmo# invoke-rc.d freepops stop
Stopping freepops daemon: freepopsd.
root at nomad:/home/kelmo#
The output look a little different to yours, and I cannot reproduce the
failure.
