Could be.  What is the content of your /etc/network/interfaces and the
output from 'ls /etc/rc6.d'?  Perhaps your network connection went
down before the NFS mounts are umounted?

I suspect the problem is with some network related package, and not
with initscripts, but will need more information to know. :)
