No detectable effect.  Presumably it's spreading the load between
the nonexistent multiple cores of my squeezebox's antique CPU.

Aha!  There's a clue in insserv(1)'s EXIT CODES section:

>              0    Service was successfully installed or removed
>              1    Service was not installed or removed

So it must be "INStall SERVices" - not even the most mystifying
packagename I've moaned about today ("abby", #548214).
