Ah, I see.  Such as a RAID1 mirror without metadata, such that each
partition looks valid on its own?  OK, that case makes sense; you
definitely don't want fsck running on individual components without
assembling the RAID first.

Any way to avoid that while still ensuring that in the common case users
never have to run fsck manually?
