For what its worth I proposed, and wrote code for, something to this a few
years ago:

That small thread went on to discuss the virtues of offering a 0/N patch series
email which was not so helpful, and so I decided to forget about it ever since.

If you'd like to revive or discuss that patch I'm all ears.
